When teeth become too decayed to restore or severe bone loss has occurred, many patients will have the option to take out these teeth. Every extraction requires an x-ray to allow our dentists to see the tooth and the best way to remove the tooth or teeth.
The Procedure
The procedure is fairly simple. The dentist will first numb the tooth and surrounding tissues thoroughly numbing the area, allowing patients to not feel anything other than slight pressure, but no pain. Our dentist will use different tools to allow the tooth to gently rock out, providing a way to ease the tooth out that will not cause major swelling nor pain afterwards. Once the tooth is removed the dentist will apply gauze for a patient to bite onto, which will help the patient to form a clot more quickly. This clot allows the area to stop bleeding and provide proper healing to begin. After extractions take place, each patient will sit down with our highly trained assistants and go over care for the areas in which the teeth where removed as well as homecare, including extra gaze to take home.
Many people do find tooth extractions a nervous procedure, thus we allow patients to talk to us prior and go over any questions one has and comfort patients every step of the way.
